This year the annual model building event was held, for the first time, in the brand new National Military Museum (NMM), situated on the old US miltary base in Soesterberg, The Netherlands. It was an instant success. In previous years, the number of visitors stalled at 15.000, now there were more than 22,000 visitors. That’s an increase of up to 50%.
The visitors got to see, in addition to the permanent exhibition of the NMM, the best 25 modeling and flying clubs have to offer. The wide range of models was enormous. In addition to models from the entire modeling world there were remote-controlled cars, boats, airplanes, multirotors and even tanks.
The outdoor area was used for demonstrations of all these radio controlled models. For the boats there were 4 basins with water, where boats took to the water. For the aircraft there was a large area available for demonstrations, while the model cars and trucks drove here between.
Drone races by FormulaFPV
On the aircraft reserved part there was a demonstration of the latest sport among RC model aircraft: FPV Drone racing. The organization, done by FormulaFPV had designed a challenging course where pilots could fly and demonstrate to the greater numbers of visitors what FPV drone racing is all about.
This experience was for some lucky spectators even more fun because they got to watch the race with the pilots using the HobbyKing provided FPV goggles. This proved too be so popular with the spectators that it caused huge queues at the FPV goggles.
The FPV drone racing was such a great success that it will probably be a regular feature in the next annual model building l event.
