As many systems available to facilitate drone racing are not accurate enough for the standards FormulaFPV is trying to set for itself, we are forced to develop our own system. To make this happen we have been brainstorming and developing all manner of possible solution to automate the timing and scoring of Drone races. After an extensive R&D phase where we have been testing various solutions we have 3 possible solutions that are close to the capability FormulaFPV is afther.
On Friday 4-Sept 2015 we invited Kris and Ron to be the first to test our new racing system. We spent the day flying through the Jaarbeurs in Utrecht at high speeds to make sure the system was registering every pass and adapting the hardware and software as needed. At the end of the day we had established 2 things:
- Our system is almost ready to be put in production and shared with the racing community.
- We need a softer landing zone for future tests.
All in all a good day for development. We have a few small things left to test such as the effect of ambient variables on our system and stress testing of the backup systems in case of primary system failure and 1 or 2 little mini games for our racers to play at home.
We hope to have our first live test at the next FormulaFPV race.
